Tobiah Pierce is no longer simply a prince. Sensuality: Some kisses, but nothing else. Told from the perspective of Tobiah, the crown prince with a dangerous secret, and set two years before the heart-racing action of The Orphan Queen, this 100-page digital novella brings to life one of Jodi Meadows's most beloved characters. There's a lot of ugly talk because of her dark skin. Violence: This is a cinderella type retelling, so Marianne gets verbally and emotionally abused by all the ignorant people in her village and the orphanage. It's incredibly challenging to do a deep love story arc in less than a hundred pages. That was frustrating, but I kinda expect that if I'm reading a short story where the two love interests are just meeting. I'm excited to keep reading the books in the series to see how the sweet Prince Sebastian ends up as the Beast in her Beauty and the Beast retelling.Īs with all short novellas, the love story is abrupt, insta-love. I loved her personal growth here, and the love and compassion shown by the royals in the book in helping her see her worth and absolutely brilliant character. I thought for a while she had a birthmark or something, then it's apparent that she's dark skinned and just hasn't ever seen another person like herself ever. Marianne was sorta hard to figure at first. I did round up with this book, it's more of a 3.5, but it was well done with small nit-picky things I didn't like.
