It demonstrates to me how the museum landscape is progressing to be more engaging and accessible to a wider audience, understanding all the different stories we can tell. Seeing the groups of teenagers excitedly pointing out the different animes and mangas they recognised to their friends and eagerly watching the visual materials on display was really special. I particularly noticed the diversity of visitors, and how different the age demographic was in comparison to other museum exhibitions. I was extremely lucky to have been able to attend the exhibition back in 2019 and contextualise the seminar with my own experience. In the seminar, we discussed the challenges she faced in curating such an exhibition, and her aims in displaying the vast array of genres, histories and aspects of manga production. Rousmaniere was the lead curator of the Citi Exhbition, Manga at the British Museum in August 2019.
